Contact

One form, six routes. Say what it is about and the message reaches the person who can answer it.

Where each message lands

Nothing here is sorted by a machine. This is who reads what, and where a request often gets a faster answer than a form can give it.

A speaking invitation

Universities, schools, festivals, workplaces and community events. The speaking page asks about the room, the date and the audience, which is most of what has to be settled first.

Speaking

A media request

Interviews, biographies, portraits and images for publication. The press page already carries the approved biographies and three portraits, ready to download, if that is all that is needed.

Press

A screening of My Refugee Journey

The film is in the edit, with completion scheduled for March 2027. Screening requests are held and passed to 360 Degree Films, who hold it. No dates are being taken yet.

Films

Licensing or exhibiting photographs

An enquiry, not a sale. Rights differ across the nine series and two of them are not his alone to licence, so every request is answered by hand.

Photography

Community or advocacy

The Hazara Cultural Association in Dandenong, which he founded and presides over, and the Refugee Leadership Program at the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.

Something else

Everything that is none of the above. Read by the same person, answered on the same timing.

Melbourne, and a room in Dandenong

He has lived in Melbourne since 2013. Most weeks he is at the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, where he coordinates the Refugee Leadership Program, or at the Hazara Cultural Association in Dandenong. Neither address takes post for him, and this form is faster than either.

No phone number is published. Every message comes through this form and is answered within three working days.

For press, what is ready now

A deadline should not have to wait three days for a biography. These are approved and downloadable, and the press page carries the rest.

Barat Ali Batoor is a Hazara photographer, filmmaker and advocate based in Melbourne. A double Nikon-Walkley winner in 2013, he documented his own passage from Afghanistan to Australia and now co-directs the feature documentary My Refugee Journey.

Two Nikon-Walkley awards in 2013, including the inaugural Photo of the Year. Best Director, Australia, at the Melbourne Documentary Film Festival, 2021.

What happens next

Every message arrives in one inbox and is read by a person. There is no autoresponder and no ticketing system behind this form, so nothing is sorted before somebody has seen it.

The reply comes within three working days. Where an answer has to come from the producer, the association or the Resource Centre, it takes longer, and you will be told that rather than left waiting.

A licensing enquiry is an enquiry. The rights on the photographs are still being worked through series by series, so the honest answer to a request is sometimes that a photograph cannot be offered yet.
